How do we do these events?
I've listed actual running distances below, but they don't have to be exact, just estimate. You can also keep it super simple and set your own goals. For example: My child ran 2 laps around our block, or my child sprinted from the house to the tree. Her time was ______.
If you choose to measure distances, you can use a tape measure, fitness watch, running app, or website, like Plot My Route to create your own routes. See below for my example at Sherwood Park.
Choose 2 or more events, you do NOT have to do or read them all.

*Stocker Stadium is closed for 4 weeks for re-surfacing, beginning April 20th. There are other local tracks at some of the middle and high schools.

- Standing Long Jump: Use something like a rope or sock to make a line on the grass. Have your child stand with 2 feet together, toes behind the line, bend knees, swing their arms and jump forward as far as possible. Measure from the line to their heals and record.
- Running Long Jump: Use something like a rope or sock to make a line in the grass. Have your child run up and jump (or leap) off of one foot, without touching or crossing the line. Measure from the line to the body part that is closest to the line when they land. (the heel of their foot, or their hand if they fall backwards. Students have been taught to lean and land forward, so it should be their foot.
- Softball Throw: If you have a softball and a large space, have your child throw from behind a line and measure the distance with a tape measure, or estimate with your steps. If you do not have a ball or that much space, you may use another type of ball, a sock ball, or a wadded up paper for fun.
Plot My Route
Awesome website! Here's an example of a 1 mile route around Sherwood Park. Start at Point A, run around once, go past Point A and end at Point B - that's 1 mile! Use Plot My Route to measure and create your own anywhere in town at any distance.
